Visit of the European Union Ambassador to the HCPC : a rich exchange on governance issues

On Friday May 16, 2025, I had the honor of receiving His Excellency Mr. MUND Stéphane, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Benin, on a professional visit to the headquarters of the High Commission for Corruption PreventionHCPC).

The meeting, held in a spirit of openness and cooperation, addressed the crucial issues of transparency in public management, prevention of the risk of corruption and strengthening accountability in our administration. Accompanied by his Deputy, the Ambassador showed a keen interest in the mission entrusted to the HCPC.

I took the opportunity to present the main thrusts of our strategic plan, as well as our current efforts to institutionalize the culture of integrity, both within the administration and in society as a whole. I also highlighted the challenges we face, particularly in terms of inter-institutional coordination, raising public awareness, and strengthening prevention mechanisms.

We discussed several avenues of collaboration, including :

  • The development of tools to detect and map corruption risks;
  • Strengthening the technical capacities of the HCPC and its branches;
  • Support for national awareness-raising campaigns, targeting young people, local elected representatives, civil society organizations and public officials;
  • Exploring synergies with governance programs financed by the European Union in Benin.

On behalf of the HCPC, I welcome the Ambassador's attentiveness and availability, and look forward to the European Union's renewed commitment to good governance, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

This visit augurs a promising and lasting cooperation. It reinforces our conviction that preventing corruption is a long-term task, requiring the constant involvement of institutions, technical and financial partners, and all citizens.
