Fighting corruption and managing border areas: ABeGIEF in partnership with HCPCABeGIEF in partnership with HCPC equips defense and security forces in Pobè
As part of the drive to strengthen security governance and combat corruption in border areas, the Agence béninoise de Gestion intégrée des Espaces frontaliers (ABeGIEF), in partnership with the Haut Commissariat à la Prévention de la CorruptionHCPC, organized a training and awareness-raising workshop for the defense and security forces (FDS) of the Plateau department on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in Pobè.
This initiative brought together officers from the Republican Police, Customs, Water Forests and Hunting, to equip them with knowledge and practical tools to prevent border insecurity and promote integrity in the exercise of their missions.
The workshop is a first step in the establishment of a permanent framework for inter-agency cooperation, recognized as essential for preventing cross-border crime and reducing the risk of corruption in border areas. This cooperation aims to strengthen the resilience of security systems and guarantee the protection of national territory.
The opening ceremony was presided over by the Prefect of the Plateau department, in the presence of the Secretary General of the HCPC, the representative of the Director General of ABeGIEF, the Deputy Departmental Director of the Republican Police, technical executives from the Prefecture and numerous officials from the bodies concerned.
Participants benefited from presentations on several key themes
These sessions, enriched by practical exercises and interactive debates, enabled the SDF to gain a better understanding of the links between corruption, cross-border crime and national security, and to identify best practices to be applied in the field.
At the close of the workshop, the Prefect of Plateau expressed his satisfaction and thanked the participants for their commitment. He praised the collaboration between HCPC and ABeGIEF, which reflects the Beninese authorities' determination to build effective border security, based on integrity and inter-agency cooperation.
This workshop illustrates Benin's commitment to reinforcing the vigilance and probity of its defense and security forces to guarantee territorial protection and national resilience.
